Ramsey Fine Arts - Principal Survey Results Report to the District
Thursday, February 04, 2010 12:50 PM

The principal must provide visionary leadership for staff and families in the arts education.  As an arts magnet the new Ramsey principal should have the knowledge and understanding of learning in and through the arts.  The principal should have experience in implementing a newly defined magnet program.  (The Fine Arts Working Group is currently redefining the Fine Arts Focus for Ramsey.) The principal should also have the interest or desire to forge relationships within the community to enhance the Fine Arts program.

The Principal needs to work well with both staff and parents.  He/She needs to be a strong leader in the arts, communication, behavior management and parent involvement.  The principal needs to be a unifier and be able to increase parent involvement that is representative of the diverse student population found at Ramsey.  The principal should have success in increasing the academic achievement of studens of color and unifying a diverse K-8 school community.

In addition to meeting standard district criteria, the new principal should have exceptional communication skills which are transparent, concise and use all methods available to reach all families. It is important to the Ramsey community that the principal establish and maintain a consistent school wide positive behavioral management policy and be able to generate respect and support for and from parents, staff and students.  The Ramsey Fine Arts community would like a principal that can celebrate the good qualities of the school and change those parts that are not working.
